Learn to fight and fight to learn

Learn to fight and fight to learn. In other words learn a skill well and what ever the cost never stop learning. Strive to learn something new everyday. After awhile it will become a habit. That is what I am striving to do with this blog. I want to make it a habit to come here everyday and share something. I am struggling with that. Hopefully over time I will have created a new habit and coming here will become second nature.

Since last Thursday I have been experiencing my headaches again. Typically they last all day and all night. Not sure what to do about them. I have been focusing on my exercises and that seems to help. However, I am not one to take the exercising lightly. Am I overdoing it and making my headaches worse. Possibly.

I have not been running the treadmill because of the stress on my legs. I would rather take my running to the road. I just need to work up the ambition to do so after work. I have been continuing my biking at the fitness center at the hospital. It is a great place that is supplied by my employer for the staff to use.

Today I have pushed my biking to the limits that I might not surpass in the near future. I set the time for 30 minutes and bike as far as I can. My top distance as of today is 10.86 miles and that was done today. I am very happy on that accomplishment. Not sure how much more I can push out of the bike with out stressing out my legs too bad. We will have to see just how fast I can top that distance.

I am picking up speed on my karate. I have learned one of the three kata that is needed for this next test. I have two left to learn. I hope to be testing sometime in late February or March. I cannot wait.

I have also been revisiting the idea of getting back into body weight training. I did post a link on the sidebar of this blog concerning body weight training. Please feel free to learn about it. I like it because of the flexibility of training anywhere at any time. I do not have to fit into a gym at certain hours or by extra equipment for my house. The training is based on minimal equipment that really can be used anywhere.

I am feeling better tonight

I am feeling better tonight. Still running with a slight headache, but rather tolerable. I am really having fun bringing you this information on my blog. Helps me put life into perspective and also orders my workouts.

I have had to stop running on the treadmill. My legs cannot handle it. I would rather be running on the street. Let us see if the world will allow me to do that soon. I have stepped up my biking from 15 minutes to 30 minutes. I have been doing about 10 miles during that 30 minute time.

I have also continued to bring my food for breakfast and lunch.I would also say that I have been eating healthier. More fruit has been entering my diet. With the training and the eating I have been able to reduce my weight by about 3 pounds. Not that I need to loose any weight. I am within my BMI. Loosing a couple of more  pounds will not hurt.

Giving the legs a break from running

Giving the legs a break from running. The treadmill has been eating my legs alive. I think I have to move the running to the street. The stride on the treadmill is not working for me. I did manage to ride the bike for 30 minutes today. I did 10.10 miles. Great workout.

Was a very busy day otherwise and I am looking forward to getting a rest tonight. Will be back tomorrow to inform you how my running is going. Have a great night.

Continuing on with life

Continuing on with life. I have been having such a wonderful time. I have put together a small collection of inspirational books. They range from martial arts, philosophy and religion. I have them easily accessible to me and will use them to pull strength to keep going with this plan of bettering myself.

I had a fairly good training day today. I managed to run 1 mile before my legs became too painful to run. I would have rather been running outside but the treadmill is the only thing for now. I see now that I will have to quickly move to running outside. I do worry about ice but with care I can be successful.

I did also manage to get in 5.2 miles of stationary biking. I did that in 15 minutes. I feel the burn in my legs but the biking is easier than running on the treadmill.

Today is good. Tomorrow will be better. Take care and have a wonderful and restful night.

What can I say

What can I say. Weekends were meant to be lazy I guess. Did not do any exercises. Bummer! Spent too much time on Google+.
 I do think that the weekend does allow for recovery. I just wish I could motivate myself to be more active. Will work on that more. That is it for now. See you tomorrow.

Taking a break from hard exercise.

Taking a break from hard exercise. I find that with rest days built into my routine my muscles have a chance to rejuvenate. I believe that the rest periods that I have built into my routine account for my successes. I have taken some inspiration from music to enhance my workout routine. Which is very logical. Music with out rests (or quiet spaces) is just a bunch of noise.

I did not just sit on my butt all day. I attended a karate weapons class today. Our class will be meeting once a month to allow for those who choose to train with various weapons. I also do continue to push stretching on those days without formal exercise.

Heading down the street spinning in circles

Heading down the street spinning in circles. That is how the trip to karate class went. I did manage to make it there. But with the amount of snow it was slippery. I did have a great exercise day. Too much snow so training was inside again.

Had the best workout since last summer. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill in 25 minutes and 24 seconds. An hour later I was able to bike 5.2 miles in 15 minutes. Enjoyed the workout. Since I have exercise induced asthma I have to worry about being able to breath during the workout. I have noticed that lately I have not needed to use my rescue inhaler at all. That means my daily medication is working.

I think that I will be stepping up the training this weekend. Hope to be able to show you pictures of the training.

Tough workout today.

Tough workout today. My legs are rather soar and I was not able to do a full run. Was only able to run 1.25 miles in 12.20 minutes. I also biked 4.8 miles in 15 minutes. I do have trouble running on the treadmill but push though the pain anyway. It really has to do with the change in the stride that I use there verses running on the road.

I was on a 24 hour internet blackout yesterday so I did not post my regular message. I started out the day by getting a migraine on the way to work. Was not really my self and but made it through the day with the help of medication. I once the pain was gone I only had a slight dizziness. I did try to run on the treadmill but only was able to make it a mile. I did not push myself into a bike ride either.

I have been maintaining my better eating habits. I have been bringing my own breakfast and lunch with me to work. I will attempt to buy healthier foods for next weeks meals.

WOW! Today was a great day!!!

WOW! Today was a great day!!! I had a lot of energy going into today. I suppose that should be considered strange for a Monday. Had a wonderful breakfast and lunch prepared for work...ahead of time. I also felt great through the day. Headaches are at a minimum. I think that the new medications might be working.

Today's workout consisted of 2.25 miles of running on the treadmill and 5.1 miles riding on the bike. Glad work provides a place to workout. Also, just finished a great 1 hour karate class and that seemed to be a great workout in itself.

I am continuing to work on the website. Slower than expected. I am also trying to figure out how to link my workout logging website to my own. I feel this will be a good site and want to get it out soon.

Well, must go for now and prepare to get some sleep. Another fun packed day awaits me tomorrow. Hope you all continue to come back here and check my progress. Thanks

The lazy bug hit me today.

The lazy bug hit me today. Not so good for my goals. I need to get back on track and will accomplish that tomorrow. I think what I am not fond of is going out in the cold to run. However, I suppose I can start the upper body workout today. So maybe I will do that instead.

I have mostly been trying to clean up around here. I am interested in starting Google+ hangouts from my workshop. Just need to do a little more cleaning and setup. I was hoping to have another computer up and running but ran into technical difficulties. Need to come up with a DA-1 adapter for a used Dell computer that I picked up. Look forward to getting that computer up and running.

I did also start using another program to track my workouts. I would suggest anyone who wants to start using it. http://www.mapmyfitness.com/. I hope that you like it. Can also have friends in this program to help with support.

I have been working on the website real hard. I have been adding links that I find interesting and useful. They will be a great addition to what I am trying to do here. Hope you all stick around. It is rather cold out today.

It is rather cold out today. We did not make it past 20 F today. I did manage to go out and work in the garage for a while. Finished the insulation that I needed to install around my porch. Other than that I did not spend much time outside today. I am looking forward to tomorrow. It appears that we will gain about 10 degrees.

I decided to take a rest from working out today. The body does need a rest once in awhile. Since I have been running and/or biking every day my legs have really gotten a great workout. I will plan on aggressively tackling the running tomorrow. I will be reviewing my kata for karate on Monday.

It is Friday the 13th.

It's Friday and am looking for the weekend. I am extremely tired this evening. Even took a nap this evening but due to some people kids that seem not to listen. I will survive though.

I started this morning out right and performed 40 minutes of hard labor called shoveling snow. Had a pretty good but busy day at work too. I did manage to squeeze in a 2 mile run on the treadmill. Did not have time to do my biking before having to leave for the day.

I really am curious about my exercising this weekend. Just how will it go. I am looking a there being a good three inches of snow on the ground here. Has never stopped me in the past but I am getting older and wiser. Trying to convince myself that I can spot the slippery areas. We will see I guess.

I will also be looking at adding to my routine by adding sit-ups and push-ups this weekend. Really do need to start working on my upper body so that I can keep everything in balance.

I look forward to finishing my website this weekend, at least good enough to get it out for everyone to be able to use. From there I will continue to hone it to make it better. I am finding that this blogging and website business is taking a lot of time. I hope however that this effort will continue to hold me to the standard that I have  set for myself in 2012. I hope that you will stand with me as I continue to make upgrades and improvements.

Tough day at work.

Tough day at work. Something like 15 hours today. That is what you sign up for in the medical field though. This is going to be short tonight tired and have not been home.

I am continuing to better myself physically. I biked 4.55 miles in 15 minutes. I also ran treadmill for 2 miles. Makes for a great workout. Better go and will see you all tomorrow.

Wow!!! What an exciting day.

Wow!!! What an exciting day. Tough day at work, but was able to relieve some of the stress through doing a 2 mile run during what should have been my lunch. Then a couple of hours later I rode the bike for 4.3 miles and was able to really wind down for the day.

Keeping with the bringing food to work. Today I brought breakfast, some more Raisin Bran cereal. Lunch was a can of  tomato soup with saltine crackers, and did even find enough room to squeeze a banana. Things are progressing as planned.

I worked on my website some more today. Inserted a picture of my garden by the link for healthy eating section. Still looking for one more picture of exercise to put in by my exercise link. I am finalizing a list of links that I can post of sites that have some meaning to me or that I think will be useful I ones healthy living goals. I am finally including a link from here to my site and hoping that this will be use more useful to you in the near future. Look forward to the possibilities that this new website is going to provide.

Today shaped up to be a great day

Today shaped up to be a great day. Still recovering from the migraine from yesterday, but it is not too bad today.

I was able to do some biking in the fitness center at work today. I did a 15 minute ride on the bike and traveled the equivalent distance of 3.8 miles. I will forgo the running today for 2 reasons. Even thought the weather is great for Wisconsin at this time of year, nearly 40 F, it find that it was just a little too windy to want to be running.Especially just starting out. Secondly, I will be attending karate class tonight and should have all I can to get through class. I did struggle some last Friday and was out of breath for most of the class. I am planning to rework my schedule during the day for awhile to see if I cannot find time in the fitness center to run.

Another thing that I wanted to do was to start bringing my own food to work. I eat two meals there so I had to pack smartly. I brought I container of milk. That was enough for me to have half for breakfast and half for lunch. For breakfast I enjoyed a bowl of Raisin Bran cereal. For lunch I had a can of Campbell's  Vegetable Beef soup. I topped that off with Saltine crackers.

I am really glad to be holding up to my decisions. This has been a great experience for me and I look forward to this coming year.

I am taking a break from the workout today

I am taking a break from the workout today. Onset of a migraine this morning will do that. I mill be back to the bike and running tomorrow. Hopefully I can also add some new exercises. Also tomorrow is karate class so I look forward to that in the evening.

To start out my healthy eating I am preparing for bringing my own breakfast and lunch to work tomorrow. This I hope to continue so wish me luck. I have not figured out what will be on the menu so that will be a surprise.

I will also get back to working on my website tomorrow in hopes that I can have enough graphics on it to be able to get it rolled out. Can always add to it once it is running. I look forward to the website since I can post thing there such as charts and graphs. I also am excited about including other links that are important to me so that all of you have access to them.

I have had a great day

I have had a great day. Started out a little slow. Had an OK time with the family. Just spent some time at home. Finally a weekend where someone did not have to work.

Since I wore out all the bikes that I have here it was not possible for me to bike today. I can only bike at work or when I go to the YMCA., but I have not done that there yet. I did run 2 miles this evening outside. The weather was good for it.

I did work on my website and hopefully can have it up and running in a day or two. From there you will be able to access my exercise, healthy eating information. This year is going to be great I can feel it already.

This year is going to be great I can feel it already. I am almost a full 24 hours with out a headache. Great to be free from pain for now. Just been thinking though. Is this reprieve due to the exercise that I am doing.

Yesterday I posted that I did some work on the stationary bike and treadmill. Today I am proud to say that have increased my efforts. I did 3 miles on the stationary bike and 2 miles on the treadmill. I am so happy about this accomplishment.

Before exercising thought I would suggest knowing what you are capable of. I push myself , sometimes too far, but I know that I can physically take it. I want everyone to not just get to know their bodies. If needed please consult with a doctor. Especially if you are not use to exercise. I push myself to limits slightly beyond what I know that I can handle so that I know that yes when push comes to shove or if a time my life or the lives of my family and friends depended on me I could handle any situation.

Getting Better!

To day was a much better day. Did wake up with a headache this morning and it took until around noon to shake it and I did. I even avoided taking any pain killers.

I have started to work out this afternoon. This included a series of stretching that I learned in karate. I rode a stationary bike for 2 miles and ran on a treadmill for 1 mile. I did also do a set of 15 crunches that really worked the stomach.

I will be posting a regular workout routine that I will follow everyday. That should be ready with in the next couple of days. It will include my targeted workout and what I actually performed. Having a visible record is great motivation. I will also start posting my diet. The diet is very important in achieving a healthy lifestyle.

Sorry about not posting yesterday. I was not feeling well. Hope to keep up while I am healthy. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Being a blogger is going to prove to be challenging. I will keep this up and provide you with the best content possible.. I have started 2012 under the weather. I am trying new medications to control my headaches. I also ended 2011 with the worst migraine I have ever experienced.

Now things hopefully will be under control. I did get some stretching in today. Though not much. But I wanted to drop a brief posting because I have pledged to post something everyday. Wish it was more interesting. Take care and tomorrow will be better!

New Beginnings For 2012

Wow! Another year down and welcome to 2012. As I said this year is a year of new beginnings for me. I am not starting out with what I was hoping because of a migraine that hit me yesterday. Recovery can be a little slow. First time in my life that I had to go to the doctor to get a shot for the pain. Better today but not up to full speed.

2012 is a year to start fresh. I have decided to start be cleaning up the junk that has been collecting in my part of the bedroom. Always should have a nice relaxing place to go. A place that you can let the stress of the day disappear. One cannot do that if the place is a disaster area. I would have taken a picture of the before and maybe should have. But I chose not to embarrass myself that much. Here is the results. Yes, I even have a space for Madie my chihuahua. Put the new side table in today and it is a match to the one that my wife will be using on the other side of the bed.

I am starting out the year slow. To night some stretching so the I keep the flexibility that will be needed for the rest of the year. I will be attending Karate tomorrow. Looking forward to it due to a couple of weeks off. Cleaning house is just the beginning.

I have also been looking for other ways to clean up my life. I wanted to delete my Facebook account. Due to other programs that rely on Facebook I do not want to get rid of it now, but hopefully soon. I have however already shut down my Twitter account and am looking forward to the end of the 30 day waiting period. Less clutter in life is needed for sanity.

Please keep coming back to see what happens next. I will be a disciplined person trained to be a warrior. Trained not to be a master of fighting but to be a master of myself. A master of my thoughts. A master of my life.
